Dr. Deborah E. Jones, fondly known as “DJ”, established ELC in 2006. DJ retired as
principal from the Guilford County School System in Greensboro, NC. She founded
ELC on the belief that relationships, education, and leadership are critical factors that
determine the success of any organization, its people, and the quality of services it
provides. DJ served as a trained turnaround school team leader for the North
Carolina Department of Public Instruction for three years. DJ conducts workshops,
provides consulting and coaching services to principals and teachers, and speaks to
student and parent groups. DJ demonstrates a strong passion and commitment to
school improvement, educating minority children and children of poverty.

Dr. Jones was selected and trained by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to serve as a Team Leader for the State Assistance Accountability Program from 2002-2005. She also planned and supervised the Leadership for Turnaround Elementary Schools Program; co-sponsored with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina’s Principal’s Executive Program from 2007 to 2008. Dr. Jones served as a contracted coordinator for the Center for School Leadership Development at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she planned and supervised the Leadership Program for Experienced Principals and the Leadership Program for New Principals from 2006-2009. For the past 4 years Dr. Jones has been serving as an executive coach and instructor for the Sandhills Leadership Academy, a principal alternative licensure program in North Carolina (2011-2015).
